ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Affairs Tallal Chaudhry on Tuesday appeared before three-member bench of Supreme Court headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan but claimed he had no legal representation since his lawyer Asma Jahangir had passed away.
Tallal had been issued a notice on February 2 and had claimed in his first appearance before the bench on February 6 that he was yet to finalize a counsel. However, he claimed today that he had requested Asma Jahangir to fight his case but her sad demise had once again left him with no legal representation in the case for now.
Chaudhry sought time to finalise a counsel. He was granted 6 days as the court was adjourned till Monday, ordering the minister to respond to the show cause notice issued to him.
“You have made derogatory and contemptuous speeches/statements at public gatherings, telecast by different TV channels, which prima facie constitute interference with and obstruction of the process of the Court as well as aimed at belittling the stature of this Apex Court within the contemplation of Article 204 of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973, read with Section 3 of the Contempt of Court Ordinance, 2003”, the notice read.
