ISLAMABAD – In the aftermath of a suicide blast in Lahore’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park, Prime Minister Nawaz on Monday cancelled his scheduled visit to the United States, a private TV channel reported.
According to details, the prime minister was to leave for Washington to attend the fourth Nuclear Security Summit. Special Adviser on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi will represent Pakistan at the summit, the channel reported.
At least 72 people were killed and 340 injured in the suicide blast on Easter Sunday. The park was crowded with visitors, most of them children and women, when the blast took place.
On Sunday, the army chief directed commanders and intelligence agencies to kick off a search operation in Punjab to bring the perpetrators of the deadly Lahore suicide attack to justice.
So far the paramilitary forces have carried out five operations in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan, Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Lt General Asim Bajwa said in a statement.
