MANILA: A 39-year-old Pakistani, wanted for several crimes including terrorism, rioting and double murder, was arrested by the Philippines Bureau of Immigration.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said that Malik Muhammad Sharif was arrested on Saturday in Subic, Zambales, in northern Philippines by agents of the bureau and other agencies.
He said that Malik was the focus of an Interpol red notice and went by Sharif Ahmad, obviously an alias.
“According to Interpol, the suspect faced a death sentence in Pakistan,” the immigration commissioner said on Monday. It was unclear how long Malik had been hiding in Philippines.
“Malik was wanted in his country for double murder, attempted murder, terrorism and rioting,” he said.
